Last year we organised a workshop entitled ‘Shame, Stigma and Medicine’ which brought together speakers from various disciplines including medicine, sociology, philosophy, nursing and law, among others. A range of topics were considered where shame and stigma play a role in medical treatment and the experiences of both clinicians and patients. Speakers spoke about public health policy, shame in the clinical encounter, shame in disability, shame dynamics in cosmetic surgery practices, mental health and stigma, among other topics. The programme can be seen here and podcasts of all talks will be available on our website soon.
